About Emily Lowis…
Emily Lowis is an artist and educator based in Midwestern Illinois. She has an Art Education and an Art Studio dual-degree with a minor in Geography. Emily is inspired by her family farm and experiences on the land. Many of her pieces are inspired by shared moments between her family and friends. Emily’s favorite activities are traveling and painting plein air.
The Big Idea
The main goal is painting scenes that hold emotional weight while reflecting on shared moments that should be treasured. This idea started on Emily’s family farm, where she worked and found beauty in the ordinary, then expanded to various natural settings.
Emily’s Approach
Emily is inspired by Impressionism. Viewers can see active brush strokes and an impasto texture to many of her paintings. This is also due to her love of plein air painting, where the artist must paint quickly and adjust to ever-changing light.
